Honey Mustard Chicken Wings

These honey mustard chicken wings are marinated and are then baked in the oven. This makes them come out nice and sticky. Oven baking the honey mustard chicken wings help make them healthier compared to other cooking methods. It also makes it very easy to cook a lot of wings at once.

This honey mustard chicken wing recipe is gluten-free, egg-free and dairy-free. This makes it a great party food due to how allergy friendly it is.

Honey Mustard Marinade

This honey mustard marinade combines the sweetness of honey with the tanginess of mustard to create a super tasty and flavor packed marinade. You will want to mix the marinade together ahead of time to make sure the honey has properly mixed in with the other ingredients and not clumped together.

Make sure to reserve some of the marinade (about 1/4 of it). This reserved marinade will be used to brush onto the chicken wings part way through cooking. Add the remainder of the marinade in with the chicken wings and let marinate for at least 20 minutes. If you can, leave the wings marinating overnight for even more flavor.

This marinade is very versatile and can be used for more than just chicken wings. It also works great with other parts of the chicken and even goes well with other types of meat and vegetables.

Oven Baking

Like most oven baked chicken wing recipes, I recommend using an oven safe wire rack. This is especially true for this recipe because of the honey in the marinade. The wire rack will keep the wings up and away from any of the marinade that burns on the baking tray.

Because of the honey in the marinade it is also best to cook these wings at a lower temperature compared to other wings. This will stop the honey from burning as easily and is why this recipe uses an oven temperature of 350°F/180°C.

Uncooked marinated chicken wings on a wire rack

You will want to turn the wings part way through and brush or spoon over some of the reserved marinade. For even more flavor, brush more marinade onto the wings at multiple times throughout the cooking process.

The chicken wings will come out nice and sticky (not crispy). They are ready when the skin on the wings is just golden/just starting to go golden.

Storing Honey Mustard Chicken Wings

You can make the marinade ahead of time. The ingredients in it are all long lasting, so the marinade will also last a long time. Store in a clean, air tight jar or container in the fridge.

For best storage, store cooked chicken wings in an air tight container. They will last up to 4 days in the fridge or 6 months in the freezer.

Try storing the uncooked, marinating chicken wings in a zip lock bag in the freezer for a an easy freezer meal.
