Garlic Mustard Chicken Wings

This chicken wing recipe marinates the wings in a garlic and mustard marinade, before oven baking them. This makes the wings super flavorful and sticky when they come out of the oven. Super easy to make and uses common pantry items for the marinade.

Garlic mustard chicken wings are gluten-free, dairy-free and egg-free. This makes them great for parties as they are quite allergy friendly. Oven baking the wings makes them easier to cook in large batches. It also helps to minimize mess and make cleaning up easier. They are a great food for a snack or a side dish.

Garlic Mustard Marinade

In order to make this super tasty marinade, you will need dijon mustard, garlic and vinegar as the main ingredients. You will also need olive oil, salt, sugar and black pepper to help balance it out a little bit.

To make the marinade all you need to do is mix all of these marinade ingredients together in a bowl. It is best to do mix this separately to the wings first to make sure it is all properly mixed together. Otherwise you could end up some extra mustardy bits of chicken and some not very mustardy bits.

After mixing the marinade together, add it to the chicken wings. I find that a large bowl or zip lock bag works best. Mix the wings with the marinade until well coated. Leave the wings to marinate for at least 30 minutes. Ideally leave them overnight for maximum flavor.

This garlic mustard marinade also works great for other parts of the chicken or other types of protein. I like to use the marinade on chicken thighs which I then grill on the BBQ.

Marinating garlic mustard chicken wings

Oven Baking Garlic Mustard Chicken Wings.

For a lot of chicken wing recipes, that are oven baked, I normally would recommend a wire rack. However this garlic mustard marinade will not burn easily (due to not much sugar), so a wire rack is not necessary. The oven will be up quite hot to get some nice color on these wings and to cook them quicker. You will want to preheat the oven to 425°F/220°C.

Line an oven safe baking tray with parchment paper and put the wings in a single layer on it. It is not necessary to turn the wings during cooking, nor is it necessary to brush the wings with extra marinade whilst they are cooking. However if you do have extra marinade feel free to brush the wings halfway through cooking. This will help make the garlic mustard flavor more intense.

Storing Garlic Mustard Chicken Wings

Store cooked chicken wings in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the fridge. Or store for up to 6 months in the freezer.

The marinade can be made ahead of time so it is ready to use when needed. Make sure it store it properly in a air tight container or jar. It should last up to a week in the fridge.

Do not leave the wings marinating in the fridge for more than 2 days. This is because the vinegar, that is in the marinade, will start to change the texture of the chicken wings when left for too long.
