Garlic Bread In The Air Fryer

Garlic bread is one of my favorite snacks of all time. I love to make it whenever we are having pizza or pasta. Normally when making it at home you would use an oven. That is an ok method of making garlic bread (and is still a great way if you need to make lots at once). However, my new favorite way to make garlic bread is using an air fryer.

An air fryer cooks the garlic bread super quickly and is really easy to use. It is quicker to preheat an air fryer and the garlic bread cooks quicker in the air fryer. An air fryer also toasts the garlic bread really nicely and evenly.

Making Garlic Bread

Garlic bread is really simple to make at home. You just need some garlic butter and a couple of slices of good quality bread. I find that having good quality bread is very important for making good garlic bread. Slices of a nice country style or rustic loaf make great garlic bread, but you can use whatever you prefer.

To make the garlic butter you will need 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter (ideally at room temperature for easy mixing), 2-3 cloves of minced garlic, 1/2 a teaspoon of dried parsley and a 1/4 of teaspoon of salt.

Combine all of those ingredients together in a small bowl and mix until well combined. If the butter is still a bit cold I find it easier to use a fork to mix it together. This garlic butter mixture should make a bit more than is needed for 2 slices, the amount needed will vary depending on bread size and how thick it is spread onto the bread.

Once you have the garlic butter all you need to do is apply a generous amount of it onto a single side of the slices of bread that you have. There you have it, some nice garlic bread that is ready to be cooked.

Freezing Garlic Bread

You may decide to make the garlic bread ahead of time and freeze it to be cooked later. This can be a great idea to save time by freezing a large amount of garlic bread. This provides a snack that is almost ready to go at anytime and just needs to be quickly cooked in the air fryer.

To freeze garlic bread, line the slices of bread (that have been buttered with the garlic butter) in a single layer on a baking sheet or any other flat tray that is suitable for going into the freezer. The buttered side should be facing up. Place the tray of garlic bread in the freezer until fully frozen.

Once the the garlic bread is frozen, it can be moved to a more convenient container or bag, before being placed back into the freezer. Freezing the garlic bread in a single layer on a baking sheet prevents the butter from sticking to everything. Once it is frozen it doesn’t really stick and so can be moved to a better storage device.

Store the garlic bread in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Air Frying Garlic Bread

Garlic bread can be air fried fresh or frozen. If it is frozen it will just need to cook in the air fryer for a little bit longer.

To cook the garlic bread, start by preheating an air fryer to 350°F/180°C.

Place the uncooked slices of garlic bread in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook the garlic bread in the air fryer for 7-10 minutes, or 9-12 minutes if frozen garlic bread. Once the butter has melted and the bread is nicely toasted, the garlic bread is ready.

Each air fryer is different, so cooking times can vary depending on the air fryer.

Garlic Butter (Note 1)

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter room temperature (Note 2)

  • 1/2 tsp dried parsley
  • 1/4 tsp salt or to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat air fryer to 350°F/180°C
  • Mix the ingredients for the garlic butter together in a small bowl, until well combined.
  • Spread a generous amount of the garlic butter on to one side of the slices of bread.

  • Cook in the garlic bread in the air fryer for 7-10 minutes (9-12 if frozen), until all the butter is melted and it is nicely toasted.

  2. If using salted butter then you will most likely not need to add any extra salt.
