Why I Love Air Fried Bananas

Air fried bananas have a wonderful sweetness to them. This is from both the natural sweetness (which comes out more from cooking) and from the cinnamon sugar sprinkled on the bananas. The bananas are also nice and soft which is good for those that have sensitive teeth.

Air fried bananas are really quick to cook in the air fryer taking only about 10 minutes or so. It is really versatile as a dessert as well. You can mix and match various toppings to suit taste (obviously no getting around the taste of banana though). The speed and versatility makes it a great recipe for a last minute dessert.

Cooking Bananas in the Air Fryer

The air fryer should be preheated to 400°F/200°C. It is important to preheat the air fryer to make sure all cooking is consistent.

Mix together the brown sugar (can be substituted with coconut sugar) and cinnamon together in a small bowl. Peel and cut the bananas in half lengthwise, before sprinkling the cinnamon sugar over the cut side of the bananas. Sprinkle as much as you want or need to cover the bananas, the exact amount will depend on the size of the bananas.

Place the bananas in the air fryer. I recommend using foil to line the air fryer. Bananas get soft as they cook and can sometimes stick. The foil helps avoid making a mushy mess in the air fryer and makes cleanup a breeze. Just make sure that there is enough space around the foil to allow for air to still flow (you can also cut a few holes in the foil if you want).

Cook the bananas in the air fryer for 8-12 minutes until the sugar has started to bubble slightly and the bananas are golden on top. The exact amount of time for cooking will depend on the model of air fryer. Once cooked, carefully remove the bananas from the air fryer (they will be soft) and serve warm with your favorite toppings.

Serving Suggestions

Air fryer banana can be easily enjoyed on its own with the sweetness from cooking and from the brown sugar and cinnamon.

I really enjoy eating the banana with some ice cream and some chocolate sauce. The cold of the ice cream is goes really nicely with the warm banana. Caramel sauce also goes really well with the bananas or some whipped cream. Add whatever you enjoy eating to it. Anything that can go on a banana split will work.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 bananas
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat air fryer to 400°F/200°C
  • Mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  • Peel the bananas and cut them in half lengthwise.
  • Sprinkle the desired amount of the cinnamon sugar over the cut side of the bananas. (Note 1)
  • Place the banana halves into the air fryer basket, with the cut side facing upwards, and cook for 8-12 minutes, until sugar has started to bubble slightly and the bananas are golden. (Note 2)
  • Serve warm with your favorite toppings. (Note 3)

Notes

  1. I suggest a thin layer of the cinnamon sugar as it bubbles up nicely and cooked bananas are already quite sweet on their own. The exact amount needed will depend on the size of the bananas.
  2. Lining the air fryer basket in foil can make cleanup a lot easier as the bananas can be quite flimsy after being cooked. Be sure to leave enough room for air to circulate properly.
  3. I have used ice cream and chocolate sauce in the pictures taken.
