English Muffin Pizza

English muffin pizza is a great little snack to make make in the air fryer, as it uses really simple ingredients. Feel like pizza but don’t have any pizza dough to make pizzas? That is no problem as long as you have some English muffins lying around.

These pizzas are very versatile and can be adapted to fit whatever style of pizza you like. Often you would make English muffin pizzas in the oven. However they can also be really easily to cooked in the air fryer and in fact are quicker to cook in the air fryer.

I think these pizzas are perfect for a light lunch. They are not too heavy, are quick to make and everyone finds them delicious. This recipe can easily be adapted to be gluten-free by using gluten-free English muffins or can be made dairy-free by using dairy-free cheese (or no cheese if you want).

The first thing you should do is start preheating the air fryer to 400°F/200°C. It is important to preheat the air fryer to ensure a consistent cooking temperature.

The English muffins need to be cut in half, allowing for each half to be it’s own mini pizza. Then the next step is to slightly toast each half. This can be done in the air fryer by cooking the halves for 2-3 minutes, until just starting to brown. Try not to overcrowd the air fryer to allow for even browning. Alternatively you can do this in a toaster if desired.

Toasting the English muffins beforehand will stop the sauce making the base too soggy and also helps to not overcook the cheese when waiting for the muffins to brown later.

Once the halves are toasted, it is time to assemble the pizzas. I find it easiest to assemble the pizzas outside of the air fryer basket and then add them back in once everything is on.

Start by adding about 1/2 a tablespoon of sauce to each muffin half. The amount needed can vary slightly depending on the size of the English muffins. Add some grated cheese along with any other desired pizza toppings. Lastly, sprinkle over a small pinch of dried oregano or Italian seasoning.

Place the assembled pizzas back in the air fryer and cook for 4-6 minutes. They are ready when the edges of the muffins have browned slightly and the cheese is melted and slightly golden in areas.

Once cooked garnish with some thinly, sliced, fresh basil and serve the pizzas warm.

For best result the air fryer should be at 400°F/200°C.

This is up to personal preference and what type of toppings you are using. Common options are a tomato based sauce, BBQ sauce, pesto and alfredo. Tomato paste can also be a great substitute.

This is also a personal preference. English muffins are quite small though so I would limit the number of toppings to 3 for best results. Examples of toppings include ham, pepperoni, onion, mushroom, peppers and olives.
