Juicy Greek chicken wings! Super easy to make in the oven and packed full of flavor. Great as a snack, appetizer or as party food. Eat them either on their own or with a dip such as this Tzatziki Dip.
Greek Chicken Wings
These Greek chicken wings are not crispy, but they are nice and sticky and full of lemony, garlicky flavorful goodness. This is due to the marinade, which is the secret to these Greek chicken wings.
After marinating the wings you just put them in the oven and wait for them to cook. By oven baking the wings you can more easily cook them in large batches. You also save time and effort on cleanup and they are healthier than frying.
These chicken wings go great when dipped into this Tzatziki Dip. The flavors pair very well together, but the wings are definitely still good on their own. These wings are both dairy-free and gluten-free. However, if using tzatziki as a dip, it will most likely have dairy in it from the Greek yogurt used.
Greek Marinade
The Greek marinade combines a lot of different flavors, but it is the lemon really shines through from the flavors. It is supported by all of the other flavors from the other ingredients, which combine together well.
To let the marinade develop as much flavor in the wings as possible, it is best to let the wings marinate for at least 20 minutes, but ideally overnight. You can get away with mixing in the marinade and cooking straight away if you need to. They will still turn out tasty this way as they will still be covered in the marinade which holds a lot of flavor. However if you have the time I strongly recommend marinating for longer.
To prepare the marinade just mix all of the ingredients together along with the wings. It is not a very runny marinade so there is no real need to mix it together before adding to the wings.
The marinade also works well with other parts of a chicken. It even works quite well with tofu if you are wanting to make a vegan or plant based recipe alternative.
Oven Baking Greek Chicken Wings
Like most oven baked chicken wing recipes, I strongly recommend an oven safe wire rack. It helps keep the wings above the marinade and the rendered chicken fat that drips off the wings as they cook.
To cook the Greek chicken wings, line a baking tray with parchment paper to catch dripping marinade and fat, and place the wire rack on top. Place the chicken wings in a single layer on the wire rack. Cook the wings for 40-45 minutes in an oven preheated to 400°F / 200°C.
These wings don’t need to be flipped for this recipe. However, if you do feel the need to flip them, then flip them at around the 20 minute mark (halfway through cooking).
Storing Greek Chicken Wings
For best storage, store the cooked Greek chicken wings in an air tight container. In the fridge they will last for up to 4 days. In the freezer they will last for up to 6 months
You can also store the wings in the marinade, uncooked in the freezer, to have them ready to cook whenever.
